Saturday Farmer’s Markets Are Great Success

Last fall’s Business Idea Contest winning idea has been realized – and McCloud residents are the winners. Offering fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs on Saturday mornings in front of the McCloud General Store and Building Supply, Lin McClellan and her family have formed the core of a successful market.

Ruth and Keith Peddinghaus bring beautiful kale, cabbage, potatoes, and herbs from their garden in Wilderness Estates (east of McCloud). They also offer aprons and shopping bags. Their friend Barb offers handmade jewelry.

Lin travels each week to Orland Farms to bring fresh produce to us – and she invites all local gardeners to join the fun on Saturday mornings by bring your excess fresh produce. Joe Bravo has brought his dried mushrooms, herbs, and other culinary delights to offer to the public. April Gray has contributed kale, Swiss chard, and a variety of herbs.

Lin emphasizes that this is a new venture; it needs the support of local people if it is to succeed. This is a very local-friendly market – a fund place to meet your neighbors and share gardening tips. Lin invites locals to call her at 859 2332 to find out what the Orland Farms fruit and vegetables are making available each week and/or to ask her to put a personalized basket together. She’s ready to do the work if we just tell her what we want!
